couples therapy

Love starts as a feeling.  To last, it must evolve into an action.

Creating a resilient relationship and living harmoniously with a partner over years require intentional effort.  For all their rewards, relationships can be messy.

Relationship challenges often involve questions of trust, responsibility, safety, control, and intimacy, and may be magnified by a history of trauma or stress in one or both partners. Having children in the home or caring for an aging parent can also reveal or inflame underlying issues with your partner.

You may feel stuck with the disconnect that has emerged.  Perhaps you and your partner have acknowledged your role in the conflict, or even made valiant efforts to fix the problem or change your ways, but nothing has worked.  Perhaps you feel that no amount of trying can help you break free.

I will help you and your partner define the relationship you want.  Then, with your vision as our guide, we will explore how to let go of unhelpful beliefs about love and your partner, how to better tolerate (and appreciate) the differences between you two, how to restore or deepen emotional and sexual intimacy, how to rebuild safety and trust after a breach, and how to communicate more openly and intentionally.

Disappointment, resentment, and pain should not be seen as a sign that a relationship is doomed.  Rather, these are inevitable byproducts of a relationship that matters.  I will help you respond more effectively to the hard parts, so that the tough times you experience strengthen your relationship, not define it.

I welcome LGBTQIA+ couples.
